Supporting Teachers

John McCall presents a check to Ms. Elke Hendrix of Goodwyn Jr. High.

(September 10, 2010) The current problems with the economy have hit those who can least afford it the hardest and no more so than in the public school system.  It has become more and more difficult for teachers to provide the items needed for their classrooms and for new teachers, who have not had the fortune to be able to build up their resources over time, it is even more of a problem.  The public school system has had to decrease and even terminate extra funds for teachers to use in their classrooms and so the Montgomery Civitan Club made the commitment to provide support to two new teachers from the Montgomery area who specialize in teaching those with developmental, emotional, and behavioral problems.

John McCall presents a check to Ms. Angela Harrison of PACE.

Today it was our pleasure to give checks to Ms. Elke Hendrix, a Special Ed teacher at Goodwyn Junior High School who teaches Community Based Instruction for autistic and other developmentally challenged children and to Ms. Angela Harrison, an instructor at PACE (Patterson Academy for Creative Education) who teaches .her Behavior Intervention Program for students with emotional and behavioral problems.

Teachers like Ms. Hendrix and Ms. Harrison are the key to providing a better future for these children and we are proud to be able to help them meet he challenges they face in their classrooms.  We wish them the best in their efforts this school year and we hope that our small contribution will help.
