In Service to Montgomery

Today the Montgomery Civitan Club came together in service to our community.  We distributed funds for this year to two of our most important allies in providing service to the delopmentally disabled in the Montgomery area. With the funds earned by the hard work of our members we were able to help the Children's Center of Montgomery and MARC.

Perry McCain presents Cynthia McCaghren of the Children's Center a check from the Montgomery Civitan Club.

Perry McCain presented a check to Cynthia McCaghren of the Children's Center of Montgomery.  In partnership with the Montgomery Public school system the Children's Center provides classes for developmentally disabled children of school age in the area.  Cynthia said that the funds that are provided by the Montgomery Civitan Club are used to meet the needs of their students who have a lot of physical needs and require specialized equipment for mobility and exercise. Funds from our club have provided a lot of the equipment that the facility already has and these and future funds will insure that they can continue to provide what those in need must have.

Next John Morris of MARC (Montgomery Association of Retarded Citizens) received a check to help meet the needs their charges.  MARC provides services to those from birth through age three and from age 21 and up. Their mission is to provide comprehensive mental retardation services to the Montgomery, Alabama area. Services range from early intervention through day training and vocational training, and also include residential services. They started in 1959 with just 7 clients and have 235 adults in their programs at the present time including 38 in group homes.  Many of their charges have Medicaid for their medical needs but they have no resources for dental needs and the money that is provided by the Montgomery Civitan Club goes mainly for that purpose.

We commend both of these organizations on their continued efforts to help those who can't help themselves and we will continue to support those endevors.
